Method & formulas
  • Miter cut: OD = D, R = D/2, angle α from square. Unwrapped height with φ in [0,2π]:
    h(φ) = R · tan(α) · (1 − cos φ)
  • Fishmouth 90° tee: Branch r to main R. Axial depth:
    x(φ) = √(R² − r² cos²φ)
Template height with nose offset L:
    h(φ) = L + x(φ) − x(0)
  • Thin-wall development. Add bevel/kerf allowances as needed.

About this free pipe template generator

This online pipe template generator prints wrap-around patterns for miter cuts and 90° fishmouth saddles. It uses cylinder-intersection geometry to create a true-size SVG you can print at 100 percent, tape to your pipe, and cut along the line. Works for steel, copper, aluminum, EMT, PVC, and most round tube or pipe.

Tips for cleaner cuts

Pipe template FAQ

What does “angle from square” mean?

It is the angle between a square cut and your miter plane. 0° means a square cut; 45° is a common miter for two equal pieces.

Does the fishmouth work for angled tees?

This version outputs a perpendicular (90°) saddle. You can fine-fit for slight angles by sanding or grinding. Angled-tee math is planned for a later update.

How do I scale the print correctly?

In your print dialog, choose Actual size or 100 percent. Do not use fit-to-page or shrink-to-fit. A small ruler bar is included on the SVG to verify scale.
