South Texas Vocational Technical Institute
Professional Massage Therapy - Diploma
You have always desired a career in health care but are not interested in traditional medicinal therapies. You possess a deep-seeded interest in alternative medicine and want to help people heal without having to take prescription drugs and other similar treatments. If this describes you, the Professional Massage Therapy program at South Texas Vo-Tech suits you perfectly!
You will study anatomy and physiology with a focus on the muscle system. You will examine the history, theory, and current techniques behind Swedish massage. You also look at hydrotherapy, which is the use of water for therapeutic purposes. A final important area of study is sterilization and sanitation to ensure that you can maintain a clean and safe environment.
Once you are done classroom and lab training, you will head out to the field to complete a 50-hour practicum. This can give you first hand experience with soft tissue manipulation through movement and pressure. After you complete your practicum, you can get ready to embark on your career in the field of massage.
