Medical Assistant Degree Program
Las Vegas College's medical assistant specialized associate degree provides students with the general education and specialized skills necessary for an entry-level position in a medical office. Emphasis is placed on learning the basic administrative and medical tasks required in a medical office environment. To pursue a career in the medical field, a Patient Interpersonal Relations course is taught to provide students with an understanding of the basics of human behavior.
The medical assistant course encompasses the verbal and nonverbal therapeutic communication skills needed to deal effectively with physicians, patients, family members, and other health care professionals. Students then take a variety of courses including clinical lecture, which focuses on universal precautions in the medical environment, an introduction to microbiology, emergency medical procedures, and aftercare.
Additional courses covered include:
- Medical Insurance Billing - trains students in major medical insurance and claims forms processing.
- Medical Office Practice - introduces students to the administrative functions of a medical office or clinic.
- Medical Transcription - provides students with a working knowledge of transcription for medical reports.
Las Vegas College programs emphasize hands-on training, are relevant to employers' needs, and focus on areas that offer strong, long-term employment opportunities.
