Las Vegas College's specialized associate degree in court reporting is comprised of classroom instruction and lab work which will prepare students for a wide range of positions in the field of court reporting. Extensive hours are devoted to developing machine shorthand skills, reading shorthand notes, and transcribing dictation material.

Theory is also taught as part of the court reporting program and includes principles and theory of machine shorthand for the computer-aided transcription stenography program. In addition, courses in Software Applications, Business Law, Legal Terminology, and Medical Terminology are taught.

To become a court reporter in the state of Nevada, certification is required. Upon completion of the program at Las Vegas College, graduates are prepared and eligible to take the Nevada Certified Court Reporting Examination. The examination consists of two sections: written and transcription. The written section covers academic knowledge such as vocabulary, medical and legal terminology, English, grammar, punctuation, spelling, procedures, and Nevada court rules.
