Medical Administrative Assistant
Las Vegas College's medical administrative assistant program will prepare graduates to function as bookkeepers, secretaries/receptionists, and insurance clerks. Students learn the meaning of various medical word elements (roots, prefixes, and suffixes) and learn to combine them in order to understand numerous medical terms used in the profession.
Medical administrative assistant students study the structure of the human body and its parts including relationships, functions, and disease processes of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, and reproductive systems. Medical ethics are discussed as they relate to various issues in today’s medical environment. Students are also introduced to the administrative functions of the medical office or clinic.
Medical reports will be transcribed from individual case studies, each of which relates to a patient with a specific medical problem. Important computer and keyboarding skills are presented to the students and taught in a hands-on learning environment.
Las Vegas College programs emphasize hands-on training, are relevant to employers' needs, and focus on areas that offer strong, long-term employment opportunities.
