Take your place in the health care community as a Surgical Technologist. This Associate of Science program provides you with the technical ability, knowledge and skills required for entry-level employment as a member of a health care team in hospitals or surgical center operating rooms.
You will receive training in the essentials of health care, surgical instrumentation, anatomy, physiology, medical language, and pharmacology.
You will learn health care concepts, body structure and function, and surgical technology theory. In the lab, you'll learn surgical techniques and procedures, and surgical specialties. The program also includes an Externship.
Once you graduate you are eligible for employment in hospitals, in operating and delivery rooms, in offices of physicians or dentists who perform outpatient surgery, and in outpatient care centers, including ambulatory surgical centers. A few, known as private scrubs, are employed directly by surgeons who have special surgical teams, like those for liver transplants.
Employment of surgical technologists is expected to increase 36 percent or more, for all occupations through the year 2012 as the volume of surgery increases.* Secure your place in the medical field with a career in surgical technology.
