Physical Therapy Assistant
If helping people obtain and maintain optimum health is one of your goals, the Physical Therapy Assistant Associate of Science degree is for you. You should be comfortable with people of all ages, have good human-relation skills, and have the capacity for empathetic behavior.
You will learn effective implementation of treatment interventions, as directed by the plan of care developed by the physical therapist, in a safe, ethical and legal manner. Throughout the course, you must demonstrate competency in performing data collection skills necessary to carry out the plan of care and effectively communicate with the supervising physical therapist, patients, and other health care members. You will also learn to educate the patient as directed by the plan of care developed by the physical therapist.
As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to assist in the delivery of physical therapy services. The Physical Therapy Assistant's duties include the implementation of comprehensive treatment plans according to the physical therapist's plan of care, training patients in exercises and activities of daily living, conducting treatments, administering modalities and other treatment procedures, and reporting observations and responses to the physical therapist.
As a graduate of the Physical Therapy Assistant program, you may find employment in a variety of facilities such as, rehabilitation centers, home health agencies, long-term care facilities, school systems, hospitals and clinics.
