An Associate of Science Degree in Surgical Technology is available from High-Tech Institute, including an eight-week externship along with comprehensive coursework. U.S. Labor Department statistics predict that employment opportunities in this sector will increase 36% or more. (between 2000 and 2010)
You are a valued member of a surgical ‘team’, which typically includes a surgeon, anesthesiologist, and registered nurses. You are a relaxed individual, calm under pressure and curious about the human body. Pre-operative patient and instrument prep, as well as assisting the team in preparation and monitoring of the surgery are vital functions. You take direction easily, as immediate reaction to requests during an operation is important. Familiarity with equipment and instruments increases your level of expertise.
After graduation you will be qualified to sit for the NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) TECH in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) NCCT Certification Examination. Possible places of employment will include Hospitals, Surgical Centers, Clinics and Delivery Rooms.
