Each is also responsible for different specific duties: the first and second assisting surgical technologists work most directly with the surgeon, the scrub surgical technologist handles instruments, supplies, and equipment during the surgical procedure, anticipating the needs of the surgeon (and may perform some duties of the second assisting), while the second circulating surgical technologist helps the RN obtain additional instruments, supplies and equipment during the surgical procedure.
