Once the research is complete, and design, colors, and fabrics are chosen, the next step is to create the pattern.
Pattern drafting used to be a task done entirely by hand, but is now often completed using computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) technology. This is a very technical process and those with an eye for detail would be a great match for this specialization.
When the pattern is finished, a prototype made of inexpensive fabric is constructed. The person who does this is called a sample sewer and is vital to detecting design flaws and solving construction issues.
Once the pattern is perfected, the production can begin.
