BUSINESS SCHOOLS
Business Schools: The Key to Your Future
Many business schools are experiencing enrollment numbers in record rates. The question is why. Business schools offer students practical skills that can be used in a wide variety of job settings. When you think business, you may picture the executive, well-dressed, clean-shaven, briefcase in hand, heading out for a day at the office. But the fact is that business schools offer skills for anyone from the artist who needs to sell his painting, to the executive chef trying to make a go of a new restaurant. With so much to offer, there must be something for you at a business school.
Many people are choosing to attend business schools because baby boomers are retiring in record numbers and industry lacks trained professionals that are ready to take these jobs. This creates a gap that benefits those attending one of the business colleges or universities. Now is the time to enroll in one of the business schools and secure a well-paying job.
Not only are excellent job opportunities arising, a business education is great for those that want diversity and flexibility in their careers. The landscape of business is constantly changing. There are many avenues you can take with a business administration degree, MBA, or other business education. For example, Richard Branson is trying to make space travel within reach of an average citizen. And NASA is currently working on creating Personal Air Vehicles (think Jetson’s). Imagine the day you tell your friends that you are a space marketer or flying vehicle salesperson.
Business school can also lead the way for you to let your creativity and imagination soar. What is not in our world that could be? Ask yourself this question and make millions of dollars by inventing new products and services. A new concept is one-product restaurants. There is a restaurant where every menu item includes peanut butter. They went from a small start-up firm to a multimillion-dollar franchise in no time!
Another trend is referred to as switch the niche. This is where you take a product or service that works well and tailor it to a different market. Examples of this are yoga and cooking classes for kids, or kosher dog food. Can you think of any other examples? If so, you could be on your way to making millions. In business, the possibilities are endless.
If you are up on the news, you will know of another hot button issue - outsourcing. With the increasing focus on outsourcing, business schools are placing emphasis on maintaining efficiency and productivity, which reduces the need for outsourcing. Do you know how important it is to be efficient and productive? One major airline company saved $40,000 in one year by removing one olive from every salad served in first class!
So far, business schools have been discussed only in the broadest sense. With so many topic areas, how does one narrow it down to something that applies to them? Well, most business schools will offer specializations or concentrations in a certain topic. Again, the areas here are about as broad and diverse as business itself. However, some options are generally chosen more often. This includes accounting, management/leadership, and marketing. And just to give you an idea of one of the more focused areas, project management is included.
- Accounting
An accounting education shows you how to create accurate financial reports such as displaying earnings, assets, liabilities, cash flow, and more. The field of accounting can even be further broken down into areas such as cost accounting, management accounting, and forensic accounting. With the recent corporate scandals and accounting frauds, many of these programs have placed increased importance on business ethics and integrity.
- Management/Leadership
Management and leadership are used interchangeably for the purpose of this article and are used this way in many of the business schools. However, whether you choose management training, leadership training, or both, the age-old question is always debated: Is a manager a leader and a leader a manager? You will have to attend business school to find the answer to this question! Business schools will also teach you about the evolution of management, and how it is taught in schools and practiced in business.
- Marketing
Essentially, your marketing education will show you how to use advertising and other forms of media communication to persuade a consumer to purchase or repurchase your product or service. You will find out how to recruit new customers and retain current ones. Most marketing training will emphasize retention because it is more costly to the business to acquire new customers.
- Project Management
Project management schools will show you how to complete a project from beginning to end. When you complete project management training, you will be able to stay within time and financial budgets, completing the project to the highest of standards. A project can be anything from opening a small, start-up firm to building a football stadium.
So now you have an idea of what business schools offer. Attending business school could be a life-changing decision. With so much flexibility and variety, you can definitely find something that keeps your interest and could potentially make you a millionaire! Business school could be the key to your future!
