Tuition Assistance as a program was established by Public Law and implemented by DoD Directive and DoD Instruction. Service Instructions and Regulations based on the DoD Directive have contributed to the body of guidance for the program implementation. The agreement between DANTES and the supported Services are committed to writing in a Memorandum of Understanding that serves as the basis for management of the DANTES Tuition Assistance Management Program.

The DANTES Tuition Assistance Management Program (TAMP) processes the tuition reimbursement for active duty Army, Active Guard and Reserves (AGR), Army National Guard (ARNG), Air Guard, U.S. Army Reserve (USAR), Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), Navy and Marine Corps personnel upon successful completion of courses. The program also pays the up-front tuition assistance for classroom-based courses and distance learning courses less than 24 week in length for the ARNG and USAR.
